(PRWEB) May 15, 2012

Today LaCie announced a new 2-bay network-attached storage solution (NAS) that delivers the ideal combination of speed and security for small businesses ? the LaCie 2big NAS, design by Neil Poulton. Powered by a 2GHz processor and improved file system, the 2big NAS delivers speeds up to 100MB/s, ensuring employees can share files from any PC, Mac, or Linux workstation.

?According to data from Research and Markets, network storage is growing in excess of 30 percent annually, increasing the demands placed on network storage devices,? said Erwan Girard, Professional Business Unit Manager at LaCie. ?The LaCie 2big NAS was developed to scale with the needs of SOHO users, delivering fast file sharing and data security, the two most critical factors for a small business.?

Fast Collaboration

In a data-dependent world, small offices can?t afford delays in workflow. The 2big NAS supports non-stop data accessibility and collaboration thanks to its 2GHz processor and LaCie NAS OS 2 software. It delivers enough storage capacity and bandwidth to back up multiple workstations, share large files and work on projects concurrently.

Formidable Data Security

Because data multiplies by the second, office administrators and IT professionals must ensure all digital assets are backed up and secure. The LaCie 2big NAS offers multiple levels of security including RAID 1 for data mirroring. Coupled with its hot-swappable drives, a failed disk can be replaced with no interruption, no data loss and without needing to turn off the device.

The LaCie 2big NAS ensures a complete backup of any Linux, PC or Mac workstation. Choose from the popular Time Machine and Windows 7 Backup software, or the included LaCie backup software. Consistent automatic backup means users can restore lost files instantly.

What?s more, LaCie?s NAS OS 2 dashboard makes it easy for businesses to back up the 2big NAS automatically, for added data security and peace of mind. Wizards with presets make advanced tasks such as RAID management, users management and NAS-to-NAS backups easy. No IT degree required. With just a few clicks users can back up the 2big NAS onto a direct-attached external hard drive, or schedule a nightly backup onto a NAS in a different location.

Remote Accessibility

Complementary to fast file sharing and data security is instant access to your data. The 2big NAS allows employees to access important files anywhere where there is an Internet connection. They can even download the free iOS app ? LaCie MyNAS ? to access files from an iPhone or iPad.

Energy Savings

The LaCie 2big NAS saves businesses money by allowing full control of its energy usage. Users can schedule shutdown and restart during optimal business hours to boost efficiency. Plus, the LaCie 2big NAS is now ten times more energy efficient when in deep sleep mode. And, thanks to the wake-on-LAN protocol, users can access the 2big NAS from deep sleep without being next to the system.

Availability

The LaCie 2big NAS is available in 0TB and 6TB capacities through the LaCie Online Store, LaCie PROgram+ Partners and LaCie PROgram+ Resellers starting at $ 299.00. For more product information, visit http://www.lacie.com.

Carlow, Ireland (PRWEB) May 10, 2012

Leading Irish domain registrar and hosting company Blacknight is partnering with IRISSCERT (The Irish Reporting & Information Security Service) to spread the word on the importance of password security.

IRISSCERT, a non-profit company that assists Irish businesses with Internet security issues, is launching the “Brush Up Your Security” campaign to promote awareness on the secure use of passwords amongst teenagers and young adults by urging them to treat their passwords as they would treat their toothbrush.

Blacknight, who work to educate their customers and the public at large on how to protect themselves online, are particularly invested in spreading the word on the importance of secure passwords.

?We are proud to be involved in IRISSCERT?s campaign to educate Irish youth on password protection,? Michele Neylon of Blacknight states. ?Cybercrime is a real threat and it is important for users to be alert and take preventative measures to protect their sensitive information.?

IRISSCERT are urging users to choose passwords wisely by using them regularly, changing them often and never sharing them with anyone. To reinforce the message, IRISSCERT will be distributing 20,000 free toothbrushes and leaflets to highlight how best to use passwords securely over the coming week to schools and universities.

Prior to the campaign IRISSCERT ran a survey amongst 120 teenagers to determine how they use passwords. They found that 62% of those surveyed do not use a password on their smartphone and that 36% of those surveyed share passwords with close friends or relatives.

56% of those surveyed never change their passwords and 13% only change their passwords when their accounts have been hacked or hijacked.

Neylon continues: ?Password protection is a relatively painless way to save yourself a lot of trouble down the road. If you are the only person who has access to your password you dramatically reduce the chances of becoming a victim of cybercrime. Create a password that only you would know that is easy for you to remember and don?t share it with anyone.?

Brian Honan of the IRISS explains: ?Without the support of sponsors like Blacknight these initiatives would not be possible. The campaign is funded fully by the EC but without Blacknight?s support IRISSCERT would not be around to run the campaign.?

This film was captured on my Flip Cam, saved to my Linux Mint 7 Desktop (my favorite distro), and then uploaded here to You Tube. No Mac and no Windows had any part of this, which is a first for me! I was short on time to use my video editing software (on my Mac) to add cool effects. This has a lot of new information about my life and Linux uncut and unedited. I’ll get a few more Linux videos up here in the near future.

St Thomas, ON (PRWEB) April 16, 2012

Secure file transfer vendor Rhinosoft has awarded exclusive distributorship covering Canada to C&C Software Solutions (C&C), a close partner in Canada for more than ten years.

“Too many software companies think that Canada can be treated like ‘north Minnesota,’” said Rhinosoft VP Jonathan Lampe. “C&C helps us avoid that bias by making real connections to resellers focused on Canada’s ten provinces and three territories.”

“Rhinosoft’s secure file transfer solutions are a perfect fit for our resellers,” continued C&C’s CEO Joan Chandler. “They provide innovative features like iPad and Kindle Fire transfers at a surprisingly reasonable price.”

Brands covered by the expanded agreement include Rhinsoft’s Serv-U secure FTP Server for Linux and Windows and FTP Voyager secure FTP client. Both Serv-U and FTP Voyager are already available in English, French and several other languages required by Canadian companies with a global reach (e.g. Chinese).

C&C Software Solutions (ccsoftware.ca) is a Canadian distributor of best-of-breed software represented in all ten provinces and three territories. Since 1998, C&C Software has provided reliable solutions, rapid order fulfillment, expert technical support, secure online ordering and a distinctly personal approach to a loyal and growing base of Canadian software resellers.

Rhinosoft (Rhinosoft.com) is the global leader in affordable file transfer, with more than 90,000 business customers, including nine of the Fortune 10, in 90 different countries. Its award-winning and U.S. department of Defense-certified Serv-U FTP Server and FTP Voyager client products support FTP, SFTP, FTPS and web-based HTTP/S transfers over FIPS 140-2 validated channels while continuing to incorporate emerging technologies such as mobile computing, IPv6, native 64-bit computing and UTF-8/Unicode internalization.
